One of my neighbors, a redhead who writes for the NYT, has these awful things in front of her house. Every time I walk by, I am reminded of the back-end of a baboon.
(What we need is a White House Garden Czar, who would see that such plantings are kept where they belong -- in gas station garden plots.)
