The Cloud

I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
And the nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die.

What can you put on a wall?

A dancer, a sheer bit of magic, a lemon tree hook and a lovely picture, a bit askew.

Bamboo and tangled branches, flowers of shells.

Bits of green and brown and gilt, soft and hard, woven and printed and painted,  and stolen from the sea.

Summer on Jones Street

Sunny and leaping wild green.

What can you put on a shelf?

Shell flowers from a New York gal of another era, the time of El Morocco and The Stork Club, cigarettes and shoulder pads, a stiff scotch and hats made by Halston.

A drawing of a dear friend.

A shell from your mother's collection.

And more--

A vase from a thrift shop, so perfect, it felt like a gift.
Vintage fabric framed in bamboo.
A peacock from China.
And a mirror'd ruff of shells.
